The rock-out workout has arrived

Members of Virgin Active South Africa can now Pound® it out gym after the popular cardio workout straight out of LA, California launched in 90 select Virgin Active health clubs on 15 March.

The rock-out workout uses Ripstix®, which are lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising. Pound® transforms drumming into an extremely effective and unique way of working out. It’s a full-body workout where instead of listening to music, you become the music! The in-class soundtrack is set to rock, rap, pop, and old-school music, creating an electric, concert-like environment where everyone becomes the drummer.

Pound® is a combination of cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. This class will tone your entire body, improve your rhythm and coordination as well as increase your strength and flexibility.

Originally created in Los Angeles, the drumming-inspired workout has a growing network of 10,000 trained instructors in over 40 different countries. CEO and co-creator of Pound®, Kirsten Potenza, designed the workout to be something that connected people directly to the beat, using music as an escape to empower and motivate. She believes strongly that a workout should feel as powerful and moving as playing or listening to music. Designed for all fitness levels, males and females, Pound® provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, toning up and rockin’ out!
