January fitness survival guide: 5 tips to stay active

The year’s in full swing and life is undoubtedly hectic

Work is crazy as you catch up on the December backlog and the school run has started, which means home life is chaotic. “When exactly am I supposed to squeeze in that exercise session?” you may be asking.

Well, no one said achieving your goals and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle would be easy, but it can be done.

Here are 5 ways to stay active through the January madness:

1. Schedule your workout

This is usually at the top of most self-help articles on maintaining your fitness-focused lifestyle, and for good reason. If you don’t make time to train, you’ll seldom find the time. Make sure you get in at least 3 gym session a week by scheduling them in your diary, as you would a meeting or important family function.

2. Become an opportunist

Take every other possible opportunity you have to move. Whether it’s a walk to the nearest restaurant for lunch or taking the stairs to your meeting on the twentieth floor, get moving! It also pays to keep a ‘go-bag’ in your car that contains your workout gear and a change of clothes in case your work day opens up and you have 45 minutes to spare over lunch to squeeze in an extra workout or two during the week.
