EVENT REPORT: Ripped Femme seminar

Making strong women stronger.

I, along with 200 other women, attended the recent Ripped Femme seminar at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton. I was very eager to attend as I’m keen on learning more about supplements, getting lean and, of course, becoming a stronger athlete. Thank you Fitness magazine for the opportunity.

We were promised a day of inspiration and that’s exactly what we got, starting with the first speaker, William Badenhorst, who is a peak performance coach. His session was very interactive and my main take away was the concept of afformations – yes, afformations, not affirmations. William uses the prefix ‘afform’ because it means to create, to shape and to form. I loved how he explained that you have to change your limiting beliefs before you can affirm. He also had us write down 5 ‘afformations’ for us to practice daily following the seminar.

William’s top quotes from the day:

  • “You don’t attract what you want, you attract what you are.”
  • “You don’t create your thoughts, your beliefs create your thoughts.”
  • “Get the lesson from the scar, but don’t get the pain.”

The next speaker was the superstar herself, Jenadine Havenga. She came on stage and blew us away with her life’s story, sharing her never-been-seen-before pictures of her transformation. She shared how she struggled to lose the weight she had gained during her pregnancy and how she motivated herself to achieve success by setting a goal to compete in August 2013, where she placed third in her first IFBB show.

Jenadine’s second contest was a NABBA show and she secured second place. In her third contest, she finally captured the top spot with a first-place finish in a WFF show. She then proceeded to the WBFF, where she finished second in 2014. Then, in 2015, Jenadine won the Fitness Diva division and earned herself a WBFF Pro Card. In the same year, she also placed in the top 10, amongst 72 other competitive professionals. In addition to her competition success, Jenadine earned her place on the cover of Fitness magazine South Africa to cap off a successful 2015. She also shared how she has recently been spending time building an online boutique business and she shared tips about social media and being a brand ambassador.

Jenadine’s top quotes from the day:

  • “If you can’t handle me at my Britney, then you can’t have me at my Beyonce.”
  • “You have to want to succeed as much as you want to breathe.”
  • “Nutrition is everything.”
  • “Train smart.”
  • “You are the right ambassador when people think it’s your brand.”

The third speaker was Don Gauvreau, CEO of Pharma Freak Int. and developer of Ripped Femme, who is affectionately known as the Godfather of supplements. He gave the background of the development of Pharma Freak and also shared a few amazing nuggets of wisdom:

Don’s top quotes from the day:

  • “Learn to have good relationships with people.”
  • “Pursue your passion, no matter what it is.”
  • “Don’t be afraid to ask for help, reach out.”

Overall it was a great seminar. It was a bit longer than I’m used to, but I certainly learnt a lot.
